Training

Knowledge cutoff on the model page is 30 April 2026. OpenAI has not published a parameter count for GPT-6.1 Sol on the announce, the model page, or the system-card addendum. The addendum says this model uses the same types of data and training as GPT-6 Astra.

Inference

reasoning.effort supports low, medium (default), high, xhigh, and max. none and minimal are not supported. Reasoning tokens are supported. Use the Responses API for tool calling. Chat Completions is supported without tool calling. OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is coming in the coming days, with up to 8× faster token generation than this model’s standard speed in Codex.

Context

The documented context window is 1,050,000 tokens. Max output is 128,000 tokens. Inputs are text and images. Output is text. Audio and video are not supported.

Methods

GPT-6.1 Sol is in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and on the API as gpt-6.1-sol. It is not yet in Chat. Tools named for this model on the Responses API include web search, file search, image generation, code interpreter, hosted shell, apply patch, skills, computer use, MCP, and tool search. Streaming, function calling, and structured outputs are supported. Fine-tuning is not.

Benchmarking

OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol is near GPT-6 Astra on coding, computer use, and professional work at one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output list prices. On DeepSWE v1.1, OpenAI says it matches Astra at roughly one-fifth the cost and beats GPT-6 Sol’s best score by 6.4 percentage points at a lower reasoning effort.

Artificial Analysis scores GPT-6.1 Sol (max) at 52 on its Intelligence Index, fetched 5 October 2026. That is an independent score, not an OpenAI chart number.
