DeepSeek-R1 is a landmark open reasoner released 20 Jan 2025. DeepSeek claimed performance on par with OpenAI o1-class models at the time. Weights and outputs were released under an MIT license. The API historically used model=deepseek-reasoner. Distilled smaller open models were also released.

Replaced by the V4 line (Flash and V4 Pro). This page stays up as a record.
